In collaboration with Cropgen, we are providing valuable insights to some of the world's largest farming operators who are turning to innovative solutions for their needs.
Cropgen was established with the goal of enhancing long term financial returns for farm investors and potential farm buyers. Initially, the company developed a complex system of Excel formulas and sheets that considered factors such as soil type and region-specific crop rotations. However, the system became increasingly unwieldy to operate. Although the company's leadership had seen significant increases in investment and operating revenues with the existing model, they recognized the need for a more robust tool. It was clear that the old spreadsheets were no longer sufficient.
Through the strategic discovery with stakeholders and users across Lofty and the client , we built a roadmap and go-to-market strategy that filled the immediate business needs, as well as providing the framework to support further model development. Thorough investigation of assumptions and needs, in addition to research of existing solutions was paramount to the success of the product.
Lofty worked with the firm principals to turn their existing models into performant geospatial software. Moving from a cumbersome spreadsheet that had to be updated regularly by a series of support staff is now a vibrant piece of functioning software helping farm owners and operators increase efficiency and correctly plan and execute improvements. Moving from a static excel spreadsheet also allowed the new tool to utilize cutting-edge drone and satellite inputs to increase investor returns.
As the need for more food for the planet grows we will need to find innovative, sustainable solutions to our feed production needs. With CropGen, operators are able to better utilize existing farmland and resources. Not only do investors benefit from increased production and decreased costs, we are also addressing the needs of a growing population and a decrease in arable land.
